Plasma shields from Boeing

A technology emerging from science fiction is patented from Boeing. As a means of protection against the shock wave from explosions, future military vehicles and high-value targets will b e protected by a plasma shield.

How will it work?

According to the patent by Boeing, an explotion detector will detect a burst and automatically will trigger a LASER mechanism, which would locally ionize air thereby creating a plasma sphere. This sphere will be able to absorb or refract part of the shock wave of the explosion that could cause damage to the vehicle.

It is a promising technology that could be used for the protection of buildings and aircraft. Of course there are technical difficulties, such as large amounts of energy that will be needed, but are expected to be overcome.
