Home protection from EMP !!!

An electromagnetic pulse or EMP can be caused from a solar flare or nuclear exposion. This pulse can destroy all electrical components of our electronic devices, such us phones, GPS' radios, computers everything that is working using electricity. We can be protected from this pulse though, by constructing a home made faraday cage.

What is a Faraday cage?

A Faraday cage can be a box made from a conductive material (copper, aluminum ) and acts as a shield agains electromagnetic energy. 

Electromagnetic waves, will go around this conductive box but not inside it thus protecting our valuable electric devices.

How to build a Faraday cage

 It is pretty simple, actually your microwave oven is a Faraday cage! But you can not fit everything there...

What you can do is to use a trash can, made of metal, usually from aluminium. Check first if this trash can has any holes, since holes will destroy your shield. 

Now place inside the trash can cardboard covering the walls and floor, you can also cover the metalic parts with foam to be more safe.

Next take your electronic devices and wrap them up with aluminum foil for extra protection. After this step start placing them inside the trash can. 

NOTE: in no case those items you place inside the can should touch the metal wall of the trash can!!!

Now on the top place again cardboard and foam, then place the lid of the can and seal it with aluminum foil.

You are done!!!
